Dime

hired me to shoot Season-2 of Boomerang. Towards the end on our way to Paris, yes Paris, France she said. “David, you shot for three BLACK FEMALE DIRECTORS, and there wasn’t one awkward moment ” And you’re a “WHITE MAN!” How did you ? Luckily she got distracted by a pressing need (the life of a show runner) and I never had to answer it, I’m not sure that I could have.

Dime is open, curious and humble and all the while possessing a piercing intelligence. In the battle of the wits she’s unmatched (at least to me) she can synthesize concepts and themes and place them into practical form. She knows what she doesn’t know and has an emotional intelligence that is years beyond her age. She’s proof why women are superior and should run the world, yes, I said it here.

She laughs with abandon and feels deeply and is carrying the baton for the heroes of the past. Whenever we had work to do, shot-lists, etc.. we would always get sidetracked on other topics. She’s kind and her cheeks are soft.

She lives around the corner from us and in taking these shots she mentioned that this project is perfectly timed. She’s not embarking on her next chapter but her “next book”. I can’t wait to see where that leads.

My day job as Cinematographer brings a parade of people into my life, it’s pretty exhilarating on a slow day. For me Dime represents the future, we never know who will shape us or how that will happen or what connections lie ahead. I’m excited by her very presence and electrified by her light .
