ARCTIC DAWN

we made a film in Pyramiden, the last settlement before the North Pole and this was the view from our hotel fire escape. There a few novels worth of experiences and impressions of the Arctic deep within me, I’ve never been anywhere like it. The silence is overwhelming and in time, once all of my anxieties ran out of steam, a sense of calm rose from within. A peace that I’d never experienced before. There’s a tax we pay to live in a civilization and I pay mine with anxiety. This place, the whole experience, the stillness of its people taught me that there’s a another dimension to living. A profound depth that is harder to access in the populated world. They also drink a helluva a lot and I got sober after this trip. I’d like to see how my sobriety would fare here, that would be a true test.
